WPS

Also called Wi-Fi Protected Setup, WPS PIN, push button

A shortcut for joining a WPA network by button or PIN, whose PIN mode is easily guessed.

WPS lets a device join without typing the password: press a button on the router, or enter an 8-digit PIN. The PIN is checked in two halves, so an attacker needs about 11,000 tries rather than 100 million, and many routers never lock out; once the PIN falls, the router hands over the WPA password. WPA is the encryption; WPS is only a way to get its key. Turn the PIN mode off.
