IPv6

DHCPv6

Also called stateful DHCPv6, stateless DHCPv6, M flag, O flag, managed flag, other config flag, Information-request, ff02::1:2

IPv6's DHCP: addresses (stateful) or only settings (stateless), as the router advertisement's M and O flags say.

Devices ask DHCPv6 only when the router advertisement tells them to. M (managed) on: lease an address with Solicit, Advertise, Request and Reply, installed as a /128. O (other config) on: ask for settings only, such as DNS servers and the search domain, with one Information-request, while the address comes from SLAAC. Clients send to ff02::1:2 on UDP 547 from their link-local address. Unlike DHCPv4 there is no default gateway option: the route always comes from the advertisement.
