Detection and response

Persistence

Also called persistence, cron persistence, autostart, reinfection

Whatever an implant installs so it survives a reboot or a kill, like a cron entry that relaunches it.

Attackers rarely rely on a process staying up; they install persistence so it comes back — a cron job, a startup script, a service, a modified config. This is why killing a running implant is not eradication: miss the cron entry that relaunches the dropped file every minute and the host re-infects itself. Eradication means finding and removing the persistence as well as the process.
