TCP performance

Bufferbloat

Also called queueing delay, fq_codel, latency under load

Delay added by an oversized queue that TCP fills before any packet is dropped.

During a big transfer, every other packet waits behind the queue: pings jump from tens to hundreds of milliseconds. A short or smart queue (fq_codel, cake) keeps delay low at almost the same throughput.
