TCP connections

TCP reset

Also called RST, connection refused

A TCP packet that aborts a connection; the answer to a SYN for a port with no listener.

A reset makes the client fail at once with connection refused. A dropping firewall gives silence and a timeout instead; a rejecting one may forge a reset in the server's name.
