Addressing

Private addresses

Also called RFC 1918, 10.0.0.0/8, 192.168, loopback, 127.0.0.1

Address ranges any organisation may use inside, never routed on the internet: 10/8, 172.16/12, 192.168/16.

Homes and offices number their devices from these ranges and reach the internet through NAT. 127.0.0.1 is loopback: the machine itself, never on the network, so a service listening only there is reachable only locally.
